Credit repair scams

Postby Mark&Peggy on July 30th, 2008, 11:52 pm

I have some inaccurate credit items on my credit that I want removed. There are debts that were charged off over 20 years ago and I know the statute of limitations is up. I want to improve my credit reports but I am skeptical as a MF. I heard that repair is a scam but there are lawyers practicing it like Lexington Law Firm and Ovation Law. The FTC says they are all scams but yet they flourish. What is the deal? I dont know who to trust. Is credit repair for real? I'd like others who have used credit repair companies to let us know how it worked out for you?

Thanks

if lawyers are doing credit repairs, it must be legal.

Just like any industry there are both good and bad companies. The credit repair industry has a bad name because there are also alot of scammers preying on people who are desperate to improve their credit worthiness. Lexington Law and Ovation Law are both law firms and they both provide a legitimate service of disputing items with the credit bureaus. I have heard that they provide a low quality experience because they are are in it for the money, not helping people repair their credit. If you want to know if a company is a scam go to http://www.RipOffReport.com or http://www.ftc.gov or http://www.bbb.com and look them up. If they are scammers, it's likely they have many complaints from consumers. You can do anything they do for free, but be ready for a long drawn out fight when dealing with the credit agencies Equifax, Transunion and Experian. They can be difficult to deal with so if you just want the convenience of others writing dispute letters for you, you can always just hire someone to do it for you. This is America, home of the lazy......

Be careful when looking for a company to help you repair your credit. There are thousands of new credit repair companies popping up all over and few can be trusted.

Our parent company Credit Assistance Network is a credit repair company that has been members of the BBB for 6 years with an "A" rating and zero complaints.
