Credit Advice - How do I build business credit?

Postby Maite on July 26th, 2008, 2:39 pm

I recently started a home based business and I never realized how difficult life is without a good credit score. I am familiar with my reports with Equifax, TranUnion and Experian but I am not familiar with Dunn & Bradstreet ( http://www.dnb.com ) which I was told is who keeps reports on businesses like the other bureaus do.

Can some of the experts out there please explain how I can jump-start my business credit reports and increase my business credit scores? Any advice, tips or stories would be appreciated!

Thank You,

Dunn and Bradstreet are the major credit bureau for US businesses. They use a Paydex score and a algorythm defferent than personal credit. The main difference is they calculate you score mostly by how fast you pay your bill, not if you pay it.

Best advice is to contact them and open a credit file. You may want to try opening some business credit first. I was told that when you use your EIN for business credit instead of your social, it will open a file with D&B for free.
