Me and my husband have been working hard our entire lives and have 3 children that are all graduated high school and now we want to buy a home instead of renting.
The way we look at it, there is too much money wasted on renting and with todays low interest rates and economy, we can get a foreclosure or a shortsale property for a fraction of what it is worth.
One small snag...... We both have several problems on our credit reports. We had a bad year a few yrs ago and had a bunch of late payments on credit cards, a bunch o unpaid medical bills and the bloodsucking IRS decided to audit us and turns out we werent 100% honest with uncle sam so he nailed us with a 20k federal tax lien. We have paid the tax lien but it still shows on our credit reports as "Unpaid Federal Tax Lien" with a balance. Since then I havent used credit and neither has my husband. I know we should have positive credit and I know this negative credit is killing our chances at purchasing a home.
What do we do? Are there any loan or credit experts that have any input. We will do ANYTHING we have to do to get the home we want but we need help repairing our credit reports. Improving our FICO scores and building credit are something we have neglected for so many years and have nop idea where or who to turn to. Please help!!
