Advice about judgement in Texas please.....

Postby AlmaDiego on August 1st, 2008, 11:28 pm

I had surgery a couple of years ago and am receiving calls and letters from collection attorneys. they have a judgement against me, I received court docs. I didn't show up to the court, just have been ignoring all of it. This happened here in TX. I work and travel all over the US. I am interested in purchasing a property in another state and would like to know if that will affect me. will they find out about it and try to take my property? or will that not happen since the judgement against me is here in TX and doesn't count on other states? Please advise.

Judgments are good for 15-30 years in most states and rarely go away. The judgment will likely stop you from purchasing property in any state when a lien search is done or your credit reports are checked so yes; it will probably affect you.

Depending on the amount of the judgment, it would be best for you to settle with the agency, and get it off your record. Especially before purchasing property in another state.
