Abusinve Debt Collectors - What is Legal and What is Not?

I have several credit card companies that call, hang up, call again, hang up, call again and they call at least 10 times a day each. Is this legal? They do call between 8am-9pm and they know we are in their hardship program due to our son's medical condition, yet they call over and over and over. Is this legal?

It is illegal for anyone to repeatedly call with the intent to annoy or harass. The laws that regulate these compnies is called the Fair Debt Collection Practices Act (FDCPA) and they are goverened by the Federal Trade Commission. You can file a complaint at www.ftc.gov or contact your state attorney general if you feel the harassment is intentional.
